Dear members,
if you’ve been reading along on our club signal list over the course of this past weekend, you may have seen a bit of chatter regarding our teams‘ performance in their respective league games! It’s kind of hard to keep track of all the results, who played and where our teams are currently standing in the tables right now, so here’s your executive summary.
Our teams started the season in September 2024 in their respective divisions:
- Team 1 – Verbandsliga Süd – southern regional division (the highest any team from ABC has ever played)
- Team 2 – Bezirksoberliga – highest division in the Frankfurt district
- Team 3 – Bezirksliga A – second-highest division in Frankfurt
Shinshi, Pierre and Nandini were selected as the respective team captains and put together their best players to measure up against the competition.
This past weekend saw a double-header for Teams 1 and 2, going up against strong clubs on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November and Team 3 playing one matchday on Sunday morning. 3 home games and 2 away games , which ended up giving ABC 2 wins (Teams 2 and 3) , one draw (Team 2) and two losses (Team 1).
Let’s take a closer look at each of these:
Saturday got off to a late start, with a home game at Dahlmannschule in which Team 2 thrashed it out against SG Anspach for a chance to grab second place in their league table. You can find the detailed game results with points for each match here (link to Nuliga), but suffice it to say it was an extremely close contest which ended in a draw: 4 out of 8 matches for either team, which means both teams got to go home with 1 point each.
At 3pm, Team 1 got stuck into their home game against TV Bensheim, the leader of their division. This competition really produced some outstandingly close matches, which unfortunately wasn’t reflected in the final score of 1:7 for Bensheim and two points for them. Check out all the details from each match in Nuliga.
Sunday dawned dull and bleary-eyed, as is so often the case in November in these parts: Team 3 started off proceedings with their away match against BV Frankfurt. They had a reputation and their premier position in the league to uphold and did so with great determination: 5 matches won and 3 lost, although one might argue the very tight scorelines (link to Nuliga) told a slightly different story, albeit with luck on our side this time. Two points and league position No. 1 for Team 3!
Lunch rolled around and Team 1 was up again, this time facing SG Dornigheim at home (home being Gymnasium Riedberg this time). This mid-tier team put together a surprisingly strong squad, which again left Team 1 slightly adrift and losing 7 matches against 1 win (link to Nuliga), with both game points going to the guests.
Last, but not least, Team 2 was asked to work their magic again at 3pm against Tura Niederhöchstadt in an away game and did so flawlessly, stealing 7 matches to put their team strongly at the top of midfield in their division: two points for Team 2 and all the magic scorelines here (link to Nuliga)
So you’ve read this far and are fairly entertained but lacking any real meat to sink your teeth into? Fear not, here’s the roundup of our teams‘ standings in their divisions:
Team 1 is currently 6th of 8 teams in Verbandsliga Süd and working hard to keep in touch with the midfield – with a bit of luck their hard work will turn into points again, soon!
Team 2 is currently leading the mid-field of their Bezirksoberliga division and waiting patiently for one of the two top teams to miss a step – they’ll be ready when it comes!
Team 3 is plowing through their division, with a near-perfect record so far – the juggernaut of Bezirksliga A, so to speak!
This coming weekend (Nov 30th and Dec 1st) will be the last 4 games in 2024, with Team 1 again having two match-ups on Saturday and Sunday (both away games) and Teams 2 and 3 playing home games on Sunday at Dahlmannschule. That round of matches will bring the first half of the season to a close and should give us an excellent idea of where our teams are headed.
Make sure you come to our home games to encourage all our players and give them a motivational boost in their games
So there you have it, a thoroughly exhausting weekend, with a special shout-out to Radha, who played 8 matches in total for teams 1, 2 and 3 on Saturday and Sunday!
Thanks for all your hard work everyone and the time you’re taking to travel, set up and play. Thank you in particular to the team captains who coordinated multiple changes of venues, start times and player travel plans to get everyone where they were supposed to be and on time for their games 🙂
